In ‘A’ Company’s bungalow there are placards up, ‘A Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year to Bromley people to Bromley people and the Mayor.’  They have a ‘safety-curtain’ to their stage divided into the usual advertising spaces, and filled up by ‘G Weeks & Son, hot water pipe wallahs (‘wallah’ is a merchant);  ‘Maunder’s for ‘roti’ (sweets); some ‘Blomas ink, 3 annas a bottle’; ‘Try Medhurst’s Corsets’ (shame);  ‘Fawsitt’s soles wear like Bromley steak’
